What
is PopUpBuster?
PopUpBuster is a collection of useful tools for web
browsing including a third generation "pop up
killer". PopUpBuster has two built-in
"Artificial Intelligence" pop up killing
engines. They catch all unwanted pop-up and pop-under
advertisements.
How
to install it?
PopUpBuster is a unique program. It is one executable
file despite the small size. No additional DLLs or
runtime packages needed. It is ready to run after
downloading. You do not even need to download the
program to check it out. You can run it off the
internet.
Can
I use PopUpBuster with Netscape, Opera, etc.?
Pop up killing function is only for
Internet Explorer. You can use the other functions
(search, atomic clock, Junk-mail Buster) because they
do not collaborate with other browsers. Of course,
Internet Explorer still has to be present in order to
run PopUpBuster.
How
to uninstall the program?
You did not have to install it, therefore there is no
need to uninstall the application. Deleting the file
is enough to remove PopUpBuster from the hard drive.
How
to run PopUpBuster?
Remember the location where you downloaded
PopUpBuster.exe. Double click on the file and
PopUpBuster will run.
How
to start eliminating pop up/pop under windows?
Click on the "Start" button or
left click on the system tray icon (The icon
will turn red indicating that pop up killing is on)
How
to suspend pop up killing?
Click on the "Stop" button or
left click on the system tray icon. (The icon will
turn green indicating that pop up killing is off).
Sometimes you just want to suspend this function
temporarily. Press the Shift key and click on the link
you want to open. It will allow you to suspend the
busting function only while you press the Shift key.
You can click the link and press Shift key immediately
after clicking for better result.
Is
it possible to run PopUpBuster automatically when I
start Internet Explorer?
Yes, it is possible and it happens without
modifying the system setup. Select the "Shortcut
on Launch Bar
" checkbox. PopUpBuster creates an icon on the
"Quick Launch Bar". Use this icon instead of
the IE icon. It opens a new explorer window with your
homepage and starts PopUpBuster if one has not been
started.
I
want Pop-up killing ON when the program starts
Select "Buster is ON when
started" check box. (Version 2.0.3.0 and above)
Will
the program let me to open a new window if I click on
a link?
Yes and no. The program detects when
you click on a link. It allows to open that
window if it was designed to do so AND the link
is "pop up safe". PopUpBuster prevents
opening a new window if that link points to a VBScript
or Javascript. In this case you need to override (by
pressing the Shift key) PopUpBuster.
Some
links do not work
Sometimes the link would run a script.
PopUpBuster (default) does not allow to start a script
because they are not "pop up safe". You can
override this behavior. Check the "Enable Script
links" box. PopUpBuster allows to run script if
the link points to one. Though PopUpBuster still
protects from pop-up windows it is possible to miss
some pop-ups. (Please remember: if you click on a link
and nothing happens, click again.) (Version 2.1.1.0
and above)
How
to maintain "Blacklist"?
There are different pop up killers.
First and some second generation pop up killers use a
database to record prohibited web addresses. They have
a tendency to slow down as the database grows.
PopUpBuster is the first third-generation pop up
killer. It acts as if it was your servant. It
cooperates with you and Internet Explorer. It
automatically detects unwanted pop up/pop under
advertisements. There is no need to have and maintain
"blacklist".
Clicking
on the Internet Explorer icon does not open a new
browser.
The program treats the browser as a pop up window if
you already opened at least one Internet Explorer.
Press the Shift key when you click on the Internet
Explorer icon to open additional window(s). (There is
a short period after you closed the last IE browser
window when the program still thinks there are open
windows. Either wait a few seconds or press the Shift
key)
The
PopUpBuster window is too big, how can I minimize it?
PopUpBuster is not just a pop up killer but
also an internet browser companion. Therefore there is
a need for a user interface. Obviously you do not want
that window on the desktop all the time. It is easy to
resize the window as you wish or minimize it. Click on
the "Minimize window" on the top right
corner of the window or right click on the system tray
icon. The program will disappear from the screen.
How
can I see the window again if it is minimized?
Right click on the system tray icon.
How
do I know if PopUpBuster eliminated a pop up/pop under
window?
The icon will change momentarily when
the program prevents opening a new window. Also the
number of killed pop up windows increases by one.
Does
PopUpBuster have sound effects when killing a window?
No. We think that most of the
PopUpBuster users want to forget about pop up and pop
under windows. Web browsing is a "flow"
experience. Anything which breaks this "state of
mind" breaks the "flow", including not
just pop-up windows but sound effects. There is a
close relationship between "flow" and
happiness according to Prof. Mihaly
Csikszentmihalyi. We want you to be happy.
What
is Fast WEB Search?
It is a tool to do "mass" web
search. Enter your search words to the input field and
click on "Search". A list of found web pages
will appear. Clicking on the link will open a new
window. Of course those windows will be protected from
pop up/pop under windows.
What
is "Atomic Clock"?
You can synchronize the system clock of
your computer with an atomic clock. It adjusts the
clock immediately when you click on "Synchronize
Time". Also, PopUpBuster can periodically set the
clock by selecting a time period and clicking on the
"Start Auto Adjust" button.
Can
I verify my system clock with "Atomic
Clock"?
There can be rare cases when you need
to verify the accuracy of the system clock Bring up
the Date/Time properties by clicking on the time on
the system tray. Click on the "Synchronize
Time" in PopUpBuster. You will see the time
change when PopUpBuster adjusts the time.
What
is Junkmail Buster?
Junkmail Buster pre-filters your e-mails. Junk mails
will be deleted from your e-mail server based on your
black list and instructions.
How
can I use Junkmail Buster?
First you need to setup your e-mail
account(s) (e-mail server, account name and your
e-mail address). The next step is to select the
account and click on "Filter E-mail". The
program will show a list of waiting e-mails. You have
a choice to delete one or more mails, put them onto
blacklist or mark them as friends. After you made your
choices click on "Delete spam". The junks
will be deleted from the e-mail server in a few
seconds. Now you can download your e-mails. Many of
our users are using Junkmail Buster to check their
mails.
Setup
We try to minimize setups. Currently
there is only one setup feature. Setting the "Shortcut
on Start Menu" checkmark creates a
shortcut to PopUpBuster on the "Start" menu.
